Free Credit Report and Free Credit Score | Are They Really Free

Have you ever seen the commercial where the dude sings, "Free Credit Report...blah blah blah," only to find out after researching that it really is not free! WTH.

If I tell you something is Free or vice versa then we expect it to be Free. No?

Credit reports affect your ability to buy a new car, rent an apartment, and even get a job. Do you know what your credit report says about you? These services can show you. Have a look. www.exodusamerica.org

One thing that is not usually available for free is your credit score, which may be called something different by each credit bureau. Equifax calls this number a BEACON score, Experian calls it an Experian/Fair Isaac Risk Model, and TransUnion calls it your FICO Risk Score.

In general, consumers know of a credit score as a FICO, which is an acronym for Fair Isaac Corporation. Your FICO score is basically a mathematical calculation of your overall credit worthiness based on information provided by the three credit bureaus. This credit rating ranges between the 300 and 850, and a higher number is more appealing to creditors. The average American has a score somewhere in the 600-700 range.

Do you know what yours is? I didn't even really want to look. I know at one time I could go anywhere, any town, any shop, car lot, realtor, furniture outlet, it didn't matter I could buy anything I wanted. In all honesty all I had to do was tell them where I worked. The mere mention of the aircraft company I was employed at often if not always brought about the next question, "Did you find everything OK? What else can we get you? You know we have these...blah blah blah.." Today tell someone I work online and it's like, "you do what?" Ever got that response from anyone my blogging friends.
