Yesterday I came across a blog post referring to the
Search Engine Ranking Factors 2009. It has some very interesting information in there from 72 SEO Experts who provided feedback to
SEOmoz.org. Every 2 years SEOmoz surveys experts in the field from all over the world in an attempt to gather their opinions of the algorithmic elements that comprise search engine rankings. Each participant was asked to rate more than 100 search ranking factors along with specific questions about hot issues in the SEO field.
Although I believe that a lot of the information can make a world of difference in your rankings it still creates within me some curious thought. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
The document has 5 important sections and though I won't go into them in depth I will outline them below. I encourage you to go see the report.
- The Overview
- Ranking Factors
- Link Building
- Additional SEO Data
- Contributors
I would have to say that the greatest part of this report is that it is Free to you and I. It is only opinions and opinions are only as good as the experts giving them. Inviting 100 Top Experts in the field and having only 72 participate leaves a question mark as well. Did some just not qualify as experts or did they not want to participate for _____ reasons. I don't know, you fill in the blank. Here again as stated, the report was free but the best of minds aren't going to give out all of their information for free. Otherwise why would we need to hire an SEO expert who gives away all the search engine ranking factors information every two years in a report.
Overall I will take what works for me and my onward journey and attempt to benefit from it. There is some interesting and what appears to be valuable data there for someone who is new to the game. As quoted by one of the contributors, -- "As one of the contributors I urge you to use this as a "guide" - there are no definitive answers - none of us are employed by search engines - these answers were given based on our own experiences." So there you have it.
I am glad to have found or rather been directed to
SEOmoz.org as I find it an interesting site. If you have any input on them, please let me know what your thinking. As well I will probably visit
SEOmoz Blog, it seems like a healthy place to stop by on ocassion.
